Modern vinyasa yoga has it's roots in Ashtanga yoga. Ashtanga yoga is a lifestyle choice, a 6 day a week practise, that demands longterm commitment, great patience and a willingness to look inward at oneself. Modern yoga styles such as Jivamukti, Vinyasa Flow, Dynamic yoga, etc.. were developed from Ashtanga yoga by Westerners to make yoga more accessible. Not everyone wants to get up at the crack of dawn and spend up to 2 hours on their mat, 6 days a week..... eventually become vegetarian, have early nights, eat less, drink less alcohol, become more conscious of themselves and who they are in the world ..... get the picture?!
Occasionally I teach vinyasa classes or workshops - they are a lot of fun! My vinyasa classes are slow and deep. Unlike many fast paced "flow" classes, this approach gives you time to explore the technique of each asana (pose), long holds make these classes challenging, dynamic, and safe for all abilities. Vinyasa yoga is a great introduction to a yoga. It is my hope that it will eventually lead you on the path to a more dedicated yoga practise.
