In this workshop will start by looking at the dynamics of simple back bends; mobilising the shoulders, opening the upper back/lower back, investigating how the legs and hips can function to support us. We will gradually progress to more advanced backbends, developing what we've learnt, by rooting through the feet, legs, hips and bandhas in order to access and open the whole spine.
We will discuss about the common pitfalls of back bending and how to address them.
Therapeutics: Lower back pain is commonly associated with back bending, especially for those who are very flexible.
This is often caused by an imbalance in the integral stabilising muscle groups. We will look at these muscle groups; quadriceps, hip flexors and psoas, how they function and how they can best be taken care of to support our backs, preventing injury and/or rehabilitating any existing symptoms of pain.
This workshop is open to practitioners of all levels (there will be different options for different levels), with an open mind, and a willingness to learn.
Wherever you are in relation to your backbends, you will feel both challenged and supported.
