Mysore Style Ashtanga Yoga is the authentic method of teaching Ashtanga Yoga as taught by the Jois family at KPJAYI, the Ashtanga Yoga Institute, in Mysore, India. When you enter a Mysore class the first thing you may notice is the distinct sound of rhythmic breathing. There is little talking in the class which allows for the peaceful connection of breath to movement and the quiet practice of moving meditation. The sequence is learned from memory so there is a strong sense of internal focus in the room. This is a self-practice class taught one on one within a group class setting, under the guidance of an experienced authorised teacher. Students progress in their own time and practice at their own breath pace, learning the sequence slowly, over time. Asana by asana.
